Since the Cancer Challenge declared war on cancer in 1993, the organization has raised and invested over $12.2 million in local cancer services and programs . All of these funds - 100% - stay right here in Northwest Arkansas, serving over 375,000 of our friends and neighbors. We are pleased to announce that our 2017 grantees include:
Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest
Funds will be used to construct, equip and furnish the new hospital, in support of the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology program. An infusion center will bring cancer treatment into the “backyard” of many children who otherwise would have to make the long trip to Little Rock to receive the care they need.
Circle of Life Hospice
Circle of Life is committed to providing end-of-life care and bereavement support for Northwest Arkansas. Funds will be used to provide charity care to uninsured and underinsured hospice cancer patients.
Community Clinic offers comprehensive health care to our Northwest Arkansas neighbors. Grant funds support screenings, treatment and follow-up care for breast, cervical, colon and prostate cancers for low-income and uninsured patients.
Hope Cancer Resources
Hope Cancer Resources provides cancer support and education in Northwest Arkansas. Funds support patient navigation, financial assistance for early-detection screenings, prescriptions, gas cards, mortgage, rent, car payments, insurance, and some utilities, counseling services, and cancer prevention education. Funds also support the Wellness for Hope program, which promotes healthy living in cancer survivors and caregivers.
Mercy Health Foundation of Northwest Arkansas
The Mercy Health Foundation works to improve the quality of life in Northwest Arkansas through projects that benefit health care and education. Funds support the Colon Cancer Navigator program, which walks with all colon cancer patients through their journey; from initial diagnosis, education, surgery, oncology services and survivorship.
Oncology Supportive Services
Oncology Supportive Services, working in collaboration with the Arkansas Breast Cancer Specialists, will utilize funds to hire a Masters-Level Certified Genetic Counselor, who will provide expert counseling to patients with increased genetic risk, and provide oversight for existing risk assessment programs.
Washington Regional Cancer Support Home
The Cancer Support Home provides hope and comfort to those learning to live with cancer. Funds support general operations and programs including: support groups, community education, a wig and prosthesis boutique, library resources, overnight guest accommodations, prescription assistance, and early-detection screenings.
